Once the additional listening port is created you must create a port forwarding rule on your firewall to forward the traffic for the new port of the target computer. You should also create a static IP on the target computer.

NOTE: Once you create the additional RDP listening port, you need to allow that port in the Windows Firewall or it will not work.

Introduction

A built-in program of Windows named eventtrigers can be used to send an email alert when ntbackup backups fail. Eventtriggers will monitor the event log for the specified event and execute a program when the event fires.

You will need to download the bmail program that is used to send out the email.

bmail

bmail can be download here:
http://retired.beyondlogic.org/solutions/cmdlinemail/cmdlinemail.htm

Eventtriggers Introduction

The first thing that needs to be done is to create a batch file that will create the event triggers in Scheduled Tasks .

The /eid is the eventid that you want to monitor.
The /tr is a unique identifier for your event trigger
The /t says the event type is Error
The /ru and /rp is admin login credentials
The /tk tells eventtriggers what to do when the event id fires

I will normally put these commands in a dos batch file so that I can easily run the configuration if needed in the future.

Running eventtriggers without any options will display all the eventtriggers that are configured.

Running eventtriggers /? will display the options.

After running eventtriggers examining the scheduled task in the system will reveal all of you event triggers.

Create a batch file to create your event triggers

eventtriggers /create /eid 8001 /tr EventID-8001 /t ERROR
/ru administrator /rp <password> /tk c:\scripts\BACKUP-FAILED.CMD

eventtriggers /create /eid 8017 /tr EventID-8017 /t ERROR
/ru administrator /rp <password> /tk c:\scripts\BACKUP-FAILED.CMD

eventtriggers /create /eid 8019 /tr EventID-8019-f /t ERROR
/ru administrator /rp <password> /tk c:\scripts\BACKUP-FAILED.CMD

eventtriggers /create /eid 8019 /tr EventID-8019-s /t INFORMATION
/ru administrator /rp <password> /tk c:\scripts\BACKUP-SUCCESS.CMD

eventtriggers /create /eid 8012 /tr EventID-8012 /t ERROR
/ru administrator /rp <password> /tk c:\scripts\BACKUP-FAILED.CMD
pause

Batch file that will execute when the trigger fires

c:\scripts\BMAIL.exe -s <smtp server name> -t <To email>,
<additional To email> -f <from email>
-m c:\scripts\msg-failed.txt -a "<Email Subject>" -d -h

Example msg-failed.txt

The backup on <some server> failed!

Please logon to <server> and examine the NTBACKUP log files

And that’s all that there is to it.

This issue pertains to the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch from Sprint.

Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: S:D710.10.S.EK02
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710-EK02-CL704398
Build number: GINERBREAD.EK02
Hardware version: D710.10

When using Microsoft Exchange you cannot enter more than 1000 characters in the notes field of a Contact record on the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G. You can edit the contact in Outlook, add additional text to the notes field and it will push down to the phone.

Called Samsung technical support and they said that this is the way the phone is designed. The first time I called they said it was a android limitation. I then went to the Sprint store and performed the same test using the Motorola Photon and one of the HTC phones and had no trouble going pass 1000 characters on the notes field.

I then called Samsung again and there technical support department is now saying that this is the way the phone is designed. I explained to them that this made no sense since additional text can be added using Outlook and pushed down to the phone, if it was a technical limitation like memory, the phone would of simply truncate the data in the notes field.

The only workaround to this issue, is to add dashes or some other character at the beginning of the contact and delete some when you need to add additional text.

Any way I reported the issue to Samsung and hopefully, they will fix it some day.

You may find that google voice has taken over all incoming and outgoing phone calls.

If this occurs you need to uninstall google voice from the phone, then login to your google voice account and do the following:

1. Click on the gear box on the upper right hand side of the screen (Settings)
2. Click on the Calls tab and set Call Screening Off
3. There is an option in the Phones tab that needs to be changed as well.

Once this is done, download Google Voice from the Market
1. In the Welcome to Google Voice screen, select Skip (To skip the Sprint Integration)
2. Select or enter your Google Voice login info and click Sign In
3. Click Next
4. We wanted to Only use Google Voice for international calls, so we selected that option
5. On the Set up voicemail screen, we selected Skip

And that’s all there is to it. All domestic calls will go thru sprint and any international calls will use google voice’s excellent international rates.

Windows 2003 Small Business Server reports The Active Directory is rebuilding indices. Please wait…
Once complete login into server and attempting to start Active Directory Users and Computers report errors. A number of key services not starting.

To correct the issue the Active Directory database was fixed using ntdsutil as follows:

1. Booted server in Directory Service Restore Mode using F8 on boot up
2. Moved the log files from c:\windows\ntds\. (Do not move NTDS.DIT, this is the AD Database)
3. Type ntdsutil files integrity (Checks integrety of ntds.dit)
4. Type ntdsutil “sem d a” go
5. Type ntdsutil “sem d a” “go f”

Reboot server to see if issue is corrected.
If not continue

You can use Esentutl.exe to perform database recovery when the procedure described earlier in this article fails (for example, the procedure may fail when the database is inconsistent). To use Esentutl.exe to perform database recovery, follow these steps:

1. Type esentutl /r c:\windows\ntds\ntds.dit
2. Delete the database log files (.log) from the WINDOWS\Ntds folder.
3. Restart the computer.

Reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816120

If all else fails then you must run the following command. Note that this command will delete entries in the Active Directory Database and may affect the server. In our case, it did fix the issue, but then the Symantec Backup Exec and End Point Protection services would not start. Had to reinstall the two Symantec products.

1. Run the command esentutl /p “c:\windows\ntds\ntds.dit”
2. Restarted the server – issue is fixed

Applied Vista SP1 and SP2. Attempting to install either Adobe Flash or Adobe Reader displayed the following error:

Installation Encountered Errors
Failed to initialize

Solved: Issue was caused by an incorrect Date and Time setting on the computer.

To work around the issue we downloaded the Full version of Flash and Adobe Reader. Both programs installed OK.

To eliminate the possibility of a browser issue, we tried Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9, Firefox and Chrome.

Flash

Other Versions of Flash can be found here:
